Fokus, Liberté-Fräiheet and déi Konservativ – parties newly founded in the run-up to the election – are set to lose out on winning any seats in Luxembourg. Volt, which ran in the last European and local elections but was standing for the first national vote, also looked to go home empty-handed.
“Of course the disappointment is deep,” said Fokus founder Frank Engel, who left the CSV to create the new party. Engel said it is unlikely he will run in another election but would end his political career.

DP ready to stay in government: Bettel

The DP is "ready to take responsibility" in a next government, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel has said, after the first projected results showed that the current coalition is likely to be voted out of office.

The DP is projected to win up to 14 seats in parliament, up from its existing 12. A pre-election poll had forecast that the party would drop one seat to 11.

"We didn't give up. We continued fighting for our ideas. We defended our programme," said Bettel, speaking at the DP's election headquarters on Sunday night.

With the DP-LSAP-déi Gréng coalition forecast to lose its majority in the Chamber of Deputies, a path towards staying in government for the DP is a coalition with the CSV, which could win up to 23 seats.
