Models for HV cables were easy – models for HV connectors tricky

While the model of an HV cable was surprisingly simple, the modelling of HV connectors was much more tricky, describes Mr. Hübner.

After a failed bottom-up approach, Hübner teamed up with the supplier TE Connectivity and went for a top-down approach:
The goal was to define a model as simple as possible. Therefore „points of interests“ and the main heat sources have been identified upfront. The supplier created a network analysis, measured the real parts, adjusted parameters and then transferred these parameters to DAIMLER, where Hübner and his team were now able to set up a „Simscape Model“ with the given parameters.

Thermal simulation of HV Wiring Harnesses

Our next speaker, Frank Hübner from DAIMLER, talks about the impacts of thermal simulations on the development process:
„Thermal simulation is a good tool to get precise data but it is very time consuming. This is not possible in the early stage where no complete CAD model of the wiring harness is available. Hence we rely on data sheets from our suppliers.“

In order to solve this problem, DAIMLER has developed a new thermal simulation environment for HV wiring harnesses.
