The situation is bad, and it is a risk we have to be prepared. The climate of 2050 will be even more different - so what can we do? We can improve our food production systems, reduce pollution and manage urban sprawl, but for example early warning systems are helping, too. COVID-19 is a risk which has to be looked after at the same time in the moment. "Managing multiple risks is also a question of the future", says Coughlan.
How can good financing look in these cases? Looking for various ways is important here, building bridges and connecting projects also. How can the government speed up their actions? "Pressure from youth and electors is crucial here", explains Coughlan. But creativity is also important. Can geo-engineering be a solution - or is it just another problem? Removing carbon dioxid of the atmosphere is one of the ideas here, but: "Whatever these ideas are, they have to be done cautiously. It deserves a lot of attention and thinking", she adds. And it won't solve all the problems, because, again: what happens in the atmosphere doesn't stay in the atmosphere.
