Interview Tilo Bonno: „Here in Europe we’re talking about the decentralization. With Karlsruhe, Munich and other cities in Europe new local hotspots are evolving. What will be the role of the big hubs like Berlin in the future?“
Miriam Schröder: „Last year there were so many startups that I wanted to visit but couldn’t, because they were not here in Berlin. When we look at the funding, it is higher in Munich and I think that is the result of a different ecosystem. Munich has huge universities."
Niklas Wirminghaus also sees a problem for smaller non-urban areas and the old industry which is located there: „Trying to get the data scientist to a little village in the Black Forest of Germany can be quite challenging.“
Asked about her opinion about the European ecosytem both Wirminghaus and Langer see it lagging behind. But Miriam Schröder replies: „We see an enormous increase of venture capital in Europe. In 2014 we had around €5bn and that grew up to €23bn and we have 61 unicorns. But if you look at the real big funding rounds most of the money comes from the US or Asia.“
