Automatization: A long way

The goal was to automize, but where to begin? Starting with the logistic KSHG has gone a long way to automize their processes. Packaging had been standardized including packages for raw materials, semi-finished and finished products.

But it did not stop with the logistics. Already 2014 the Chinese company started experimenting with terminal insertion via manipulators. The company used a single arm robot and achieved some good results. But still the robot took 30seconds for the process, much longer than a human might need. KSHG accepted the challenge and continued to experiment. Only two years later and a few robots further down the road, the insertion time went down to 2.2 seconds. Now the challenges were costs and the flexibility for producing different series. In 2017 they started building a fully automated high-voltage wire harness production line which will be put into operation this year.

Our next speaker is Min Chen, Managing Director from the KSHG Auto Harness.
The Chinese private owned company has put a lot of effort into research and the development of automized solutions. Reasons for these developments are an intensive increase in labor costs with +10 percent each year and the lack of qualified labor (due to a rapid and unequal development in the country). Products are getting miniaturized and more lightweight and the production volume has increased. „These are ideal conditions for automatization“, states Min Chen.
