Those megatrends as well as new technological developments are increasing the pressure on the wire harness industry. In order to meet those requirements BMW has started a change process four years ago. At BMW all core processes are now based on the architectural model and a consistent data backbone.
Benefits of this process are an increased quality due to the reuse of robust architectural solutions, an enhancement in the efficiency and an increase in sustainability. Standardisation, a digital database and automation of the evaluation of solution alternatives as well as the automation of consistency checks are also results of the new approach.

Welcome back with Johannes Meisenzahl, Head of Components Wire Harness and Power Supply at BMW. His topic: Digitalization and patency from architecture until assembly of the cable harness. Like many of the other speakers, Meisenzahl reflects on the requirements that are put on the industry.
The four letters ACES describe BMWs strategy to meet those requirements: Autonomous driving, Connected vehicles, electrification of vehicles and (shared) services.
„When I saw the presentation of this strategy it became very clear to me, that we in the wiring harness sector are not going to be unemployed anytime soon“, jokes Meisenzahl.
