As customers of electric vehicles demand huge ranges, rapid charging and high performance the industry has to work with higher battery capacities, higher voltage and lower resistances (e.g. within batteries).
But these solutions raise up new technical challenges: Up to 30 kA short-circuit currents, high voltage with 800V, challenging lifetime requirements and exigent current profiles – a challenge for conventional circuit breakers.
As a solution for these requirements Dr. Haba presents pyrotechnic electric circuit breakers for HV systems.
The functional principle is quite simple: The unit, developed by Hirtenberger „shoots through“ a busbar and thereby avoids re-contacting.
Some of the advantages of this pyrotechnic solution are e.g. an active separation without overcurrent, capabilities up to 1,000V and separation times lower than 2ms.
