Silos are a huge problem, as Mizutori highlights: “We tend to operate in silos, countries and even stakeholders sometimes, but we need to overcome it.” Mitigation only works if adaptation has worked before. The best practice is to break silos. “Even before the prediction we need preventing and reducing disaster risk, and if we want to prevent better from disasters, we need to understand better the climate related hazards.” Only if all miseries are seen can these miseries be reduced. The real challenge is to bring all the initiatives and partnerships together

Insurance can only be a part of the solution, not the solution itself, emphasizes Ryfisch. The losses and damages will rise, they will go into billions. Why is there so little money for climate finance? “If we want more ambition, we also need more adaptation, it has to go in both directions. There has to be support and trust.”

Mwikali thinks that in the context of COP27 climate change must not be addressed on a superficial level. “We have to stop talking in echo chambers!” Interconnection is everything, as are good and strong partnerships.
