IIED Senior Researcher Sam Greene summed up CBA16:

"This CBA16 closing plenary is not the end but an important part of these ongoing conversations in our community and beyond – the COP27 Resilience Hub, Gobeshona and the next CBA is our ongoing cycle of conversations.

"I like to think we are an exciting place to be:  this is the latest thinking on LLA and CBA.

"Thanks to everyone for participating. See you soon."

Reflections at the Plenary:

Here are some thoughts from our panellists:

Vincent Gainey:

"How much were local voices really heard at COP26? They were heard, but they didn't get into the final deliberations.

"We talk about increasing the flow of adaptation finance, and this is important, but we need more conversation about managing the flow in-country and delivering to the local level to make it more effective.

"We have heard great examples from projects in Nepal and LIFE-AR. These projects should present at COP-level and say: this is what we want and this is how we can use it."

Shehnaaz Moosa:

"When it comes to the COPs, there are always issues with access: fees, hotels, visas. But also getting the negotiators out of their rooms to listen!"

And another good point from Shehnaaz:

"Locally led adaptation seems de-linked from the actual negotiations. This needs to shift - it needs to come into the negotiations on finance and adaptation."
