We arrived without problems, and Tomas welcomed us to our new home for the week. Funny enough, we actually ran into him at the grocery store before we met him at the house. He saw our van as we were loading and thought, “this must be them!”.
The rain continued essentially through the entire Monday, which I guess was OK, since we were both working away anyway. Thimm was working on an application for the “Google Impact Challenge” with a concept revolving around the packaging of data and resources at a field level, with intent to increase the effectiveness of that information and subsequent insights for farmers and NGOs. While I was working with my team to optimize our strategic AI technology roadmap and definition of maturity levels for different AI capabilities.
We both seemed to be in a flow for the day, and before we knew it, it was approaching 7pm. Perhaps we were pulled away by the sudden increase in light, and decrease in the sound of raindrops. This meant we would be able to go explore!
We headed the 20 minutes or so drive into the city itself, and found parking (along with E-charging!). Then we downloaded the TWO different apps to pay for such a thing, and spent the next 10 minutes setting up TWO different accounts to pay for such a thing, and tried TWO different cards to pay for such a thing … and then we headed into the city. Nice UX, Gothenburg ;).
Despite that experience, the rest of the evening was nice. We started out in a part of town called Haga, which retained the general architectural atmosphere that it had in the 1700s. We also serendipitously stumbled into a local favorite café, where we ordered perhaps the largest cinnamon bun I’ve ever seen.
