Wednesday, however, was a different story. We were feeling like a bit of sport was needed, so we searched around and found – you guessed it – beach volleyball courts! Normally, you’d have to reserve a court, but in this case, we decided to just head there and test our luck.

We were quite lucky. The courts were packed! All 8 were filled with 2v2 games. It turns out that a tournament had started at 6pm, and now it was 6:40pm. That might sound unlucky, but the lucky part is that the organizer let us still join, and it just meant that we took our pause during the first match, and would play continuously from then on until the end.

It seemed to work for us, as despite losing one close game 22-20 in the group stage, we won the other four and made it into the quarter finals. We played the best match of the tournament then, and squeaked out a 22-20 victory ourselves to go to the semi-finale. There we managed handedly and then faced the very team we lost to in the group stage for a 3-game finale! This time, we were ready for them and won 2 games to 1. Not bad for a walk-on team, eh?

The tournament was a ton of fun, and we met again a lot of people and were able to share the cool DYL (and general hybrid working) concept with them. The organizer was even a professional Swedish volleyball player! She and her partner had even finished 9th on the world tour.

We headed back home quite ready for some rest, and Thursday contained a meeting-filled day for me, and a deadline crunch time for Thimm.

I had called Tomas the day before, and as we saw he had 5 standup paddle boards laying around the property, we asked if maybe we could borrow or rent two from him. He was up for it, but we realized that they were even too big to transport in the van. However, he came up with a solution for us by offering to drive us and the boards to the water at 6pm. Amazing!
