Having started quite late, we arrived back at our bus and then promptly drove to our next location:
Jotunheimen.
To wind down the night, we sought out a spot near the river. We drove down a few forest roads and found another dream location. I love Norway! Along with them, both Sweden and Finland (and many other “Nordic” countries) implement something called the “Freedom to Roam”, or “Everyman’s right”. This means, as long as you keep a specified distance of 150m from the nearest inhabited house, you can set up camp anywhere. You are also allowed to do things like hike, cycle, boat, or forage. The concept simply is that it is a basic right of everyone to “own” the public land.
Anyway, really, look at this location.
We set up a fire on the river, cooked dinner, and enjoyed a nice sleep before tackling our next hike. Here, we planned to take a boat across Lake Gjende and then hike along a ridgeline between two lakes and summit a small mountain.
