Question form the audience: „Do you think, we won’t individualize cars by using different hardware but rather individualize the car via software?“

Answer Dr. Wolfgang Bernhart: „With 30 to 40 percent of all cars in the future being part of a fleet, the other cars will become much more of a luxury item. Hence we expect an increase of the individualization.“
In order to keep production and planning costs low, Dr. Bernhart expects an increase in individualization via software.

„Long-term trends towards automated and electric Mobility-as-a-Services require new business models - both from OEMs and suppliers.“
Dr. Bernhart explains the impact of the changes: „The lifetime of cars will increase dramatically with shared mobility and new business models in the transportation sector. Even today we observe, that electric taxis are driven for more than 300,000km.“

Dr. Bernhart expects, that with lower operational costs and maintenance charges for electric vehicles, these new cars will outlive traditional cars with combustion engine:
"This means we need to adopt and find new business models."
