The issues of social sustainibility

13:12
04.03.2021
For her research work Csaba has focused on two segregated neighbourhoods in South-Hungary, with high unemployment rate, people with basic education and infrastructure conditions of a slum. The first is located in Pécs, on a former mining colony, the second lies at the foot of a castle, an important heritage site in Siklós.

Csaba had to consider various social sustainibility issues here: time, labour, the dependency of subsidies, and the community's motivation for change. It costs as much to rehabilitate than to build new.

ZEIT Vortragssession B

The second session on ZEIT / time has started!

Timea Csaba from the Doctoral School of Earth Sciences, University of Pécs, talks about her research topic "The Importance of Process-Design in Urban Rehabilitation Projects".

Transforming run-down, poor, segregated urban areas into liveable, human settlements has become a key issue for municipalities around the world in the 21st century. In process-design the sequence of project elements defines the outcome of the whole process: it does matter
whether infrastructural intervention comes first or the social-upgrade of the inhabitants. Currently, around three billion people live in slums worldwide.
