What are the primary lessons that you have learned for going forward?
Kaustubh Deval of FAO Afghanistan highlights that the situation in Afghanistan is complex. Numbers of corona cases are increasing in the past weeks in the countries, at the same time there is the existing food crisis, 42% of entire population live in a state of acute food insecurity. Now there is also a severe La Nina forecasted. Looking at all this and FAO’s learnings of the past 5-6 months, his team is now looking at triggers and early actions to see: Have vulnerabilities exacerbated for communities and locations? Are different communities now risk exposed? And to consequently fine tune anticipatory actions and work on triggers taking into account the interplay of conflict, food insecurity and Covid. Kaustubh highlights that with facing these multiple hazards, institutional agility is more important than ever, both internally (e.g. procurement regulations) and externally (with suppliers).
