In summary, there are a number of success stories where national social protection programmes have been reinforced, expanded, optimized or otherwise made more effective through the addition of humanitarian programmes. This has been particularly noted in response to cold waves, heat waves, floods, Cyclones/Typhoons/Hurricanes.
However, there are limited examples of social protection being integrated into anticipatory action programming and there is more work to be done.
That having been said, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that integrating social protection programmes into urban anticipatory action programmes would provide both short term and long-term sustainable benefits for both beneficiaries and governments.
