Cutting costs with a holistic approach

„Currently there are different perspectives to merge“, opens Hornfeck: „Consumers demand high range at simultaneously lower costs. Many different industries, like mobility providers, energy providers and OEMs are looking for their role in the game.“

And while the industry is transforming, the architectures also changes and provides a significant potential to simply high voltage systems – if done in a holistic approach.
As two examples for this, Hornfeck mentions two examples:
1. New „battery-based“ EV-design which reduces cabling, as wirings can be integrated into the battery unit. Even the junction box and PDU can be integrated.
2. Integration of high voltage components: The inverter of the e-motor can be integrated and the e-axle designed as a module.

With a whole new approach the costs for the wiring harness may be cutted down to 65% of the original costs – but only if done holistic, as Hornfeck points out.
