Dr. Höfemann then continues talking about the production of the X3. With the global production many challenges arose for the engineers. Staggered launches aggravate releases, implementation of changes have become more complex, different time zones complicate the direct exchange and the local assembly infrastructure as well as the cost structures may diverge in some cases.
While the engineers had been challenged by the global production, the company itself benefitted from it: The stability increased, the brand gets closer to their customers and the supply chain becomes more resilient and flexible.

The CLAR architecture for the X3 and iX3

Welcome back to our last session. First up ist Dr. Henning Höfemann, Projet Manager Wiring Harness at BMW. He talks about the „CLAR“ architecture and the BMW X3 who is the first application of the cluster architecture to the X-series. The architecture shaped the wire harness for the vehicle which Dr. Höfemann is proud of: An efficient concept has been implemented with a KSK for the main, audio and cockpit harness and a step harness for doors, seats and bumpers.

But BMW does not stop with the X3. The engineers have been working on the iX3, which has been presented last year at Auto China. The iX3 is the first pure electric derivative of the cluster architecture.
With over 270 PS and a battery capacity of 70kWh the SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) has a range of 400km.
