Commissioned by Friedrich Naumann Stiftung and the think-thank IDEAS, Merdeka Center conducted the 2nd Liberalism Survey and interviewed 1.207 respondents on their understanding of and attitude towards liberalism. The result showed that despite their lack of understanding on the ideology, more than half of them supports liberal ideas. Over three quarters of the respondents believe that Malaysia is ready for freedom of speech and free media and that rule of law must be upheld. However, 60 percents think that the government should not repeal the sedition act despite its being an illiberal law. Nearly three quarter also believe that government's control is necessary to preserve the nation's culture and values.
These findings reflects the same result of the first Liberalism Survey which was conducted one year before.
