Faith in progress

Pedro Sánchez calls on people to have faith again in progress and democracy – just like Lula da Silva, who worked as a labourer for years before eventually becoming President of Brazil, he too stands for hope and social advancement through politics. The right wing wants to sow fear and discourage us, but giving up is not an option. A better world with greater equality, more time for family and human dignity is possible, he says. Sánchez criticises oligarchs and billionaires who prioritise profit over health and social rights, and emphasises that politics must be about serving the common good. Progress is not an empty promise, but the right goal and worth fighting for. -nk

Proud of the progressive resistance

In his speech, Pedro Sánchez says we must not be ashamed or shamed for our politics. It is not progressives who should be ashamed, but those who exploit workers, collude with the right-wing and condone war and violence, he says. He counters this with a confident commitment to pacifism, environmental protection, trade unions, feminism and progressive politics. Now, more than ever, it is important to be proud of this. We need to be proud in order to fight for a fair system, for prosperity that reaches everyone, for the protection of the environment and for a policy of peace. -fw

Pedro Sánchez: Don't give up, even in dark times.

Pedro Sánchez recalls an earlier warning of a crisis and urges people not to despair despite the dark clouds. Do not listen to the loud voices of the far right, they are shouting because their time is over, not because they are winning. Sánchez is sure that progressive forces have the better solutions and that a new era of progress can begin. Unity is crucial: different progressive movements must come together to overcome the major challenges, he says. We must also regain our dignity and pride and not let ourselves be intimidated by the right’s vilification. -nk
