18.04.2026
Having wrapped up the official part of the first day’s programme, progressive politicians and thinkers gathered for the Leaders’ Dinner last night. Colleagues from the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung seized the chance to exchange views and ideas with participants from all over the world, including José Luís Carneiro, Secretary-General of the Partido Socialista, and Elly Schlein, Chair of the Italian Partito Democratico. Germany’s Social Democratic Party was also present in Barcelona with a strong showing: Secretary-General Tim Klüssendorf, Development Minister Reem Alabali Radovan, Party Chair Lars Klingbeil and Katarina Barley, Vice-President of the European Parliament all attended the evening event. The dinner gave all the opportunity to have informal chats and meet new people – very much in the spirit of the summit. -kr

18.04.2026
The summit continues today with three fascinating debates, ranging from digital democracy and the new world order to the question of which workers social democracy needs to focus on more closely. We will be hearing fresh global perspectives on power, participation, disinformation and social representation during the packed morning session.

Digital Democracy and AI: Platforms, Power and Disinformation

The session kicks off with a discussion about the impact of platforms and artificial intelligence on democracy and the public sphere. Participants include Spain’s Minister to the President, Félix Bolaños, innovation economist Francesca Bria, Cecilia Rikap, Nina Santos and Camila Vallejo. Moderating the discussion is Iago Moreno.

10.00–10.45 am | Frida Kahlo Room
Progressive Approaches to a New World Order

In the second session, progressives from Europe, Africa and Latin America will discuss international cooperation in times of global upheaval. The panellists include Magdalena Andersson, Tim Klüssendorf, Jameson Timba and Paulina Vodanovic, with Machris Cabreros moderating the session.

11.00–11.45 am | Frida Kahlo Room
The Indispensables: The workers social democracy cannot afford to ignore

Rounding off the morning, the focus is on those workers who political debates often overlook. The session opens with a film, followed by a discussion with Philipp Türmer, Konstantin Bärwaldt, Michael Miebach and Johanna Siebert who are addressing work, political representation and social democratic strategies. -fw
