Anticipatory action: an introduction

12:53
26.03.2025
What is anticipatory action? When does anticipatory action end and response start? What is the trigger? How can I develop anticipatory actions? This session will bring everybody up to speed regarding anticipatory action. We will explain the main concepts - why we do it, how we do it, when we do it and with whom – drawing on examples from around the world. There will be plenty of time to ask questions and we will also introduce you to the Anticipation Hub, where you can find further information about this transformative humanitarian approach.

Anticipatory Action is defined as acting ahead of a predicted hazardous event to prevent or reduce impacts on lives and livelihoods and humanitarian needs before they fully unfold. This works best, when activities, as well as triggers or decision-making rules, are pre-agreed, and decisions are made to guarantee the fast release of pre-arranged funding.
