After exploring the city for a good 3 hours or so, we happened to find ourselves at the port. We also saw people kind of rushing to get onto this boat, and in true adventurous style, we decided to hop onto the boat too, not really knowing what would happen. It was headed to Suomenlinna, a UNESCO world heritage site that was of course already on our “places-to-go” list. Perfect!

This awe-inspiring sea fortress is located on the Baltic sea, and was built in the 18th century by the Swedish to protect their eastern frontier from Russia. Today, it is a popular tourist destination with cafes and shops peppered alongside the old fortress walls and great views.

Being we caught one of the later boats to the island, we were spoiled with yet another sunset, and unlike the deep oranges and reds from the day before, this time shined a brilliant gold.
