Speaking of the people fleeing the war in Ukraine, Franziska Giffey stresses that the city of Berlin, and the nation as a whole, must "do everything" to "give the people who are arriving all the support we can." The Governing Mayor becomes reflective as she considers what happened when there were other flows of refugees, and says it is important to her "that we do it differently than with other refugee movements. Ukraine war: Supporting schools

Berlin's mayor says the city is helping teachers who are struggling to deal with Putin's war of aggression. One goal is that "the conflicts of this world do not dominate our schoolyards". She described a school in Berlin that was recently attacked, a school where Russian and Ukrainian children learn alongside one another. Some Russians now feel like they are "the enemy," the mayor says, with some emotion, and says, this is not the case. -ls
