Sophie Grouwels, Forestry Officer, Forest and Farm Facility at FAO, shared a suite of reports and policy briefs about forest and farm producer organisations and climate resilience.

FAO, IIED and AgriCord are calling for an immediate upsurge in climate finance for these organisations to build vital resilience into smallholder livelihoods, landscapes and food systems.

The benefits will be felt at a planetary scale.

Forest and Farm Facility: Building climate resilience among forest and farm producers

Annette McGill

Climate risks are real. Extreme temperatures could lead to 250,000 deaths per year by 2050,  and an additional 529,000 deaths per year from food shortages.

Climate resilience involves two factors: assessing risk and identifying useful responses Responses go from resisting with what we do, adapting what we do - or completely changing what we do. However, we need to consider that men and women might have different options depending on access to land and resources, care commitments, and so on.

Local forest and farm orgnisations are key agents of climate resilience, but what we need is for climate finance to reach them. At present, this rarely happens.
