Dr. Bärbel Kofler, Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Assistance Of course, the coordination of humanitarian help is a big difficulty. It needs a lot of coordination, there are so many organisations, local ones, international ones, e.g. - to get all of that together is challenging. We are trying to work on that and I'm optimistic that we are on a good way.  09:17

Working with good partners

Good partners are crucial here, emphasizes Nkhoma, and their former committees now joined to work together on the upcoming problems. But the integration into the communities themselves is most important. Risk reduction is only one part, cooperation with international partners another part. That can help to deal better with future events when all are working together.

Many questions came up in the chat, e.g.: What are the current weak links between development DRR and humanitarian DRR? “One link we have to strengthen is that the help is not creating new risks. Many risks exist, and they all have to addressed at the same time and not in silos. And, as Nkhoma said, we have to address problems at root-level, and we need more coordination and a enhanced international cooperation”, explains Mizutori. Funding is here key because the impact is so harsh.
