As the uncertainties in wind prediction consequently relate to the forecast of impacts, in the next year we hope to improve the integration of uncertainties in our forecasts. Southern Africa as a driver for innovation in anticipation

Alexandra Rüth, Head of the Anticipation Hub at German Red Cross, explained that the southern Africa region will continue to be a driver of innovation and developing methodologies for emerging topics such as Forecast-based Financing in fragile contexts. She emphasized that the way forward is to foster and strengthen collaboration through transparent and open discussions and invited everyone to challenge each other and have fun.

Moving from what the weather will be like to what it will do

Mr. Ezekiel Sebego, Manager of Disaster Risk Reduction (Public Weather Service) at the South African Weather Services (SAWS) explained that impact-based forecasting is about moving from understanding what the weather will be like to anticipating what the weather will do on the ground and highlighted their vision as a meteorological service to continuously improve the lead time for weather forecasting.
