Getting practical on collaboration and co-financing in southern Africa

We have examples of best practices from Bangladesh in response to floods where a multitude of actors aligned behind the Red Cross Red Crescent methodology and a range of funding was used. It is likely that this will be replicated in Niger with WFP-led triggers. Collaboration at country-level by hazard was agreed as well as on the need for greater investment in readiness or preparedness. Participants noted the private sector as untapped funding both at national and global levels - opportunities for flexibility exist in the operationalisation of funds. The session ended with the suggestion that we build evidence from joint efforts in Bangladesh and draw up a multi-stakeholder framework for future engagement to share with donors. Building on today´s discussions we can achieve this via our existing regional coordination mechanisms and must make better use of Dialogue Platforms to get ideas down; let's get practical!
