Arielle Tozier de la Poterie, Global Advisor on early Action and Reseeach, Anticipation Hub, German Red Cross, welcomed the panelists from Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Afghanistan, and thanked them for sharing their experiences and lessons learned in adapting to COVID-19. She highlighted the four main findings from a recent study "Managing Multiple Hazards: Lessons from Anticipatory Humanitarian Action for Climate Disasters during COVID-19" that looked at how National Societies with EAPs in place adapted them to account for Covid risks :
- Need for clear hazard management and guidelines to allow practitioners to be able to modify their existing practices and protocols in the field according to the additional hazard.
- Flexible funding mechanisms.
- Need for Surge mechanisms, to quickly respond and get additional personnel.
- Importance of local capacity building.
