In a world where so many children live under terrible circumstances, one can easily get discouraged. But the members and supporters of Childhood (World Childhood Foundation) are hopeful, because they know what a big difference even small actions can make.

Knowing that it is easier to empower children than it is to mend broken adults, Childhood focuses on prevention since it generates the greatest long-term effect. Its work focuses on ensuring that children are not abused and exploited, and instead enjoy a safe childhood.

Childhood’s work is mainly focused on those children who are at greatest risk of violence and abuse. These include: Families at risk, children without parental care or who are victims of violence as well as children connected to the streets.

Founded in 1999 by Queen Silvia of Sweden to safeguard the right of the child to a safe and loving childhood worldwide, since then more than 1,000 projects have received support from Childhood - and thousands of children have experienced a safer childhood, free from sexual abuse and violence.
