Ms. Coumba Sow impressively presented how FAO reorientated its work to mitigate the impact by COVID-19. Because FAO has had various experiences with outbreaks that disrupted markets in the region before, these crises helped to understand and estimate the economic and social impacts along the whole value chain - from production to consumption. It was very important to assess potential impacts at the very beginning of the pandemic.
“What we have integrated in our plans to follow, was guided by the ministers’ of agriculture input. Therefore, it was detrimental to strengthen our partnerships.”

Coumba Sow
We had to make sure that agriculture is not disrupted and that the vulnerable population is provided with food. We have not finished learning. We see that this crisis is there to stay, and it is very challenging because of the various layers that come along with it.
