In the Philippines, disinformation is propagated which enables distrust in media. 

The traditional media (print, radio and television) has been accused of being biased, bribed and favouring the opposition whenever strong statements unfavourable to the government are published. Social media is favoured to be a more reliable and accessible source of facts.

This trend amplifies the post-truth phenomenon.

The digital age provides platforms for alternative facts to shape public opinion - obliterating the power of the fourth estate to hold the line for truth-telling. 

It allowed the state and powerful individuals with well-oiled digital machineries to create stories which can be crafted to appear "true".

This has significantly posed threat to the integrity of the press and real journalism. And increasingly, to freedom.
